Seismic Interaction between Multistory Pilotis RC Frames and Shorter Structures with Different Story Levels—Floor-to-Column Pounding

Structural pounding between adjoining multistory buildings with different total heights and story levels has been repeatedly identified as a frequent cause of severe damage during seismic excitations. This phenomenon is very intense when upper floor slabs short hit the columns taller more flexible structures within their deformable length. On other hand, it well accepted that infill masonry panels strongly affect response overall behavior reinforced concrete (RC) frames especially in common case an open first (pilotis). Thereupon, interaction frame shorter stiffer adjacent was studied influence on investigated inelastic dynamic step-by-step analyses. The results cases 8-story RC single 4-story were examined. Three considered follows: structure, stiff structure non-self-vibrating one. All included type A (floor-to-floor) B (floor-to-column) cases. study focused (pilotis) phenomenon. Therefore, all examined two-building poundings considering two cases: involving fully infilled second Moreover, expected due to asymmetry two-structured pairs, directions (plus minus) excitation proved be important for evaluation developing capacity demands. In present time, stressed geometries (asymmetric) have both each excitation. From results, can deduced shear forces suffer exceed strength column even if detailing critical regions according Eurocode 8 applied. Further, inferred pilotis configuration increases consequently demands mainly terms ductility suffers hit.
